How Not to Write a Book While writing a book do not keep you family and friends around as you have to make time to write. Do not spend time on studying or research things which you are not gong to write. Do not whine for having no time to spend in writing a book. Don’t read too much of books as it make you to take ideas from that. Do not write and waste the time by try in g to write a book which will share similar ideas of today’s hits. Do not bore your reader by writing too much of description and unwanted things in the book which is the most important one to look in to. Do not write a book with out a manuscript as you cannot approach the market without a manuscript. Do not go to the fast moving publishing world, editors and agents with out an outline and sample especially if you are a new author. Do not write without highlighting the basic theme and main characters. But you should not overshadow the sub-plots and minor character with too much of highlighting. Do not let the characters to act out of the character without any good reason. Do not take away the actions, reaction and interactions from the character. Do not make a character that neither changes nor grows according to the theme will be static and unconvincing. Do not indulge too much of fantasy because the fantasy needs to make sense with in its own terms and do not make the illogical. Do not rely on coincidence or on the arrival of a new character in between will strain the reader’s credulity and is seldom convincing in fiction. Do not let lose of the control of your chosen narrative voice and check for unintentional switches or slips of viewpoint. Do not use unwanted dialogues which do not suit to the character or the situation of the story or the book. Do not use passive voice as active voice work better and even the most brilliant story can be dull by using flabby writing. Do not put in risk your chances by starting the story too early and giving too much background. You should not take too long to get the story moving and also do not plunge straight in to action. Do not lose the momentum of the story through the middle section, moving the story on through cause and effect, action and reaction, tightening tension while building the climax. Do not leave any unintentional loose ends. Do not publish the book if you are not sure to deliver what you promise. Do not use explanations which harm the story line of the book or the entire content of the book. |
